Netsmart a former neighbor of Nitro Technology in Tauranga has sold its Wireless Broadband network to Lightwire.
Personally I've found Paul and the team excellent to deal with and wish everyone all the very best for the future.
Dear Valued Customer,
I have some exciting and important news to share which I believe will mean faster and better broadband for you.
As you may be aware, NetSmart started building its wireless broadband network over 15 years ago in response to the clear need for improved telecommunication services in rural areas.
Since then the support from customers like yourself has enabled us to grow and develop our network to cover an area stretching from Whakatane, through the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, to South Auckland. We are immensely proud of this achievement and our success in bringing broadband to areas the big operators were not interested in serving properly.
But the time for change has come.
On Thursday 26th May, our broadband network was purchased by Lightwire (www.lightwire.co.nz), a Waikato-based internet service provider. We will retain our data centre and our hosting services under the new trading name of Eco Data, but Lightwire will take our broadband network and continue to deliver affordable high speed wireless internet and phone services.
Lightwire will be in touch over the next day or two to inform you of key dates moving forward but for now our plans and prices will remain the same. Our helpdesk will continue to operate until 1st July, when Lightwire's customer care team will take over, and we will send out a final invoice under the NetSmart name in June. This invoice will relate to charges for June and July. From 1st August all billing will come under the Lightwire brand.
We have thought very carefully about this decision and believe the right one has been made. As such, we are looking ahead to an exciting future. Lightwire shares many of our values and philosophies and I have known Murray at Lightwire for many years. They too started with an idea for delivering reliable internet to rural areas and continue to research and develop new ways of improving this service. Like us, they are 100% New Zealand owned and have a number of new and exciting ideas in the pipeline.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support as a NetSmart customer. We appreciate the support you have given us as a company and we have enjoyed serving you. Some of our team will continue to serve you under the Lightwire brand (alongside Lightwire's team) and the rest of us will focus on the data centre, hosting and other projects under the Eco Data brand.
We do hope you will support Lightwire moving forward and wish you the very best in rural telecommunications. I, for one, am very excited about what the future now holds for rural broadband.
